SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS
Játéktér welcomes submissions from researchers, theatre critics, scholars, dramaturgs, and practitioners working in the fields of theatre studies, performance analysis, and related disciplines. Please read the following guidelines carefully before submitting your work.
- Submission Process
Manuscripts should be submitted exclusively by e-mail as an attachment to:
The editorial board will acknowledge receipt and notify the author of its decision within 30 days of submission.
If the editors are unable to accept a submission, the author will be informed by a brief letter. Detailed written feedback on rejected manuscripts cannot be provided as a matter of standard practice.
The editorial board reserves the right to publish accepted contributions in the print and/or online edition of the journal. The final version of the text will be agreed upon with the author prior to publication.
- Formatting Requirements
2.1 Basic Document Format
- File format: RTF (.rtf)
- Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt
- Line spacing: 1.5
- Page size: A4
- Margins: 2.0 cm top and bottom; 2.5 cm left and right
- Diacritical marks must be used throughout
- The Caps Lock key must not be used for stylistic purposes
- Illustrations (tables, photographs) should be submitted in .jpg or .tif format, minimum 300 dpi and 1 MB
2.2 Article Header
Every submission must begin with the following information:
- Author’s name (surname followed by given name)
- Title of the article
2.3 Quotations and References
- Exact quotations from sources must be placed in quotation marks.
- All references and citations must appear in footnotes (not in the body text).
- Footnote formatting follows the conventions below.
- Footnote Conventions
All source references must appear as numbered footnotes. Please follow the format appropriate to the source type:
Book
Format: Author’s Name: Title of the Book. Subtitle. Publisher, City, Year. Page number(s).
Journal Article
Format: Author’s Name: Title of the Article. Title of the Journal. Year, issue number. Page number(s).
Chapter in an Edited Volume
Format: Author’s Name: Title of the Article. In: Editor’s Name (ed.): Title of the Book. Subtitle. Publisher, City, Year. Page number(s).
Online Source
Format: Author’s Name: Title of the Article. Available at: https://jatekter.ro/… (accessed: YYYY. MM. DD.).
- Length of Submissions
Permissible length is measured in characters including spaces, according to article type:
- Short review: 6,000–8,000 characters
- Extended review: 12,000–14,000 characters
- Essay / Academic study: 12,000–14,000 characters
- Portrait / Interview: 8,000–12,000 characters
- Book review: 6,000–7,000 characters
- Drama: from a single scene to a full five-act play
- Performance Credits
Articles discussing a specific theatre production must include a credit block at the end of the text, formatted as follows:
Title of Production. Theatre Company, Location. Premiere: YYYY. MM. DD. Director: AB. Author: CD. Translator: EF. Dramaturg: GH. Set Designer: IJ. Costume Designer: KL. Composer: MN. Choreographer: OP. Cast: QR, ST, UV.
Include only those roles that are applicable to the production in question. If a role does not apply, it may be omitted.
